Especially when the selection is based on a single piece of paper called “Resume” while we have Twitter which can tell us what a person is doing on a daily basis.

Technology has made sharing so easy that we might need to consider what’s the network of our new applicant and what it can bring to our company.

Do you Wonder if our education still make sense? Is the most efficient way to learn? How the information access speed is changing it? Like Seton Hill which is giving a Macbook+iPad to every student.

Have a look to Khan Academy? 1000+ provided by one man with one slogan: “The Khan Academy is a not-for-profit organization with the mission of providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere.”

So, a starter list. The purpose of school is to:

  1. Become an informed citizen
  2. Be able to read for pleasure
  3. Be trained in the rudimentary skills necessary for employment
  4. Do well on standardized tests
  5. Homogenize society, at least a bit
  6. Pasteurize out the dangerous ideas
  7. Give kids something to do while parents work
  8. Teach future citizens how to conform
  9. Teach future consumers how to desire
  10. Build a social fabric
  11. Create leaders who help us compete on a world stage
  12. Generate future scientists who will advance medicine and technology
  13. Learn for the sake of learning
  14. Help people become interesting and productive
  15. Defang the proletariat
  16. Establish a floor below which a typical person is unlikely to fall

If you have the email address of the school board or principals, perhaps you’ll forward this list to them (and I hope you are in communication with them regardless, since it’s a big chunk of your future and your taxes!). Should make an interesting starting point for a discussion.

My conclusion is that considering how easy and fast it is to access to the information, we should focus more on the interaction part of our courses and increase our curiosity. If there’s no interaction or no debate then we can watch an expert give the course online.

I attended to #leweb08 and #leweb09 Thanks to @geraldine and @loic. It really changed my objectives and helped me to start to think more as an innovator than a consumer of the system. We made a dedicated website and organized few workshops in my school about some topics we have seen at LeWeb. A big change for young entrepreneurs.

As @loic said in #leweb09 in his conclusion “We aim at perfection” so here’s 5 ideas that I thought it would worth to share. Let me know what do you think about it?

LeWeb10 - 5 Ideas to improve leweb - Entrepreneurs Conference

1. More about “What Is Going On in Asia?”
Discovering and then following “what the Valley/States is thinking” is amazing. Mike Arrington, Marissa Mayer, Tony Hsieh, Chris Brogran, etc are really great. But I’m wondering what the Asians thinkers are doing. We all know they are fast, smart, and pro-efficient. But apparently to quiet. It might important if not crucial to know what is going on there?

2. Is there a way to make it more interactive?
In 2009, Gary Vaynerchuk was begging Loic to organize a Q&A. Meanwhile there’s Techcrunch Disrupt Conference trying new ideas to get the public involved. So how can we do it? Red-light remotes won’t make the trick but maybe something easier? Green and red paper with a optic eye?

3. Touch more french students, we’re missing the reality of the world.
 I personnaly discovered Ted.com with Chris Anderson at Leweb08, then I started watching every weeks few conferences and then most of my schoolmates followed. During a workshop, I realized that only 50% of my schoolmates know this website. A 20min interesting talk a day can be better than a 8-hour boring course. Plus I think students (more than entrepreneurs) need to hear those talks, we will create the future. School give answers instead asking questions and it cut off our hope in innovation and creativity.

Why not give a student discount only if they organize something in their school to talk about what they have seen and understood about entrepreneurship.

Plus it’s free marketing for the event. Plus it shows that Leweb is caring even more about the future of France. Plus it might have amazing consequences.

4. Have a Real Video Library
LeWeb is becoming BIG and starts to archive a bit of videos. I still watch videos of people and ideas I want to listen again. However it’s hard. LeWebParis Youtube’s Channel and the USTREAM TV doesn’t have titles, categories and descriptions. TED.com does and makes it amazingly easier and more accessible. Again this is about giving access to something that deserves to be heard. “Ideas Worth Spreading” right? Can’t we find a way to sort them better?

5. Let The New People Talk
Talks at LeWeb are amazing. That’s true. LeWeb09 had some new awesome people like Chris Pirillo and Queen Rania. I think it has been already said in 2009, but we start to recognize too much people. Maybe LeWeb needs to look for new people, as I said, maybe Asians? Students? Or just simply a whole set of new people?

Others ideas?

  • A sustainable theme? Most of us use huge server farms, maybe it worth to share how to save energy? Promote the companies which are specialized?
  • Workshops a bit less technical?
  • What others ideas do you have?

Conclusion
I love this event, we meet great people, hear great talks and above all it’s in France. Loic left France because everything is happening in the US and he is giving a chance to our entrepreneurs to be face to new challenges. But we need to improve it, because “We Aim At Perfection” ? Right @loic?
